Hero Items and Loot
Every hero starts the game with a 15 card deck. The Soldier, Huntsman, and Assassin, have at least 2 items in their deck. These Items are a “Torch”, and “Holy Water”. These items also combine to give a little extra punch to their attack early in the game.
The Torch has the “Fire” symbol on it, which means it works best against monster with a weakness to fire. It also combines with an explosive to give it a little more oomph!
The Holy Water has the “Holy” symbol on it, which means it works best against monsters with a weakness to holy. It also combines with fire (like the Torch) to give +2 attack.
Two other notable cards in a Hero’s deck are “Ham Steak” and “Health Potion”. In the beginning of the game, these are the only ways (besides opportunities) for a player to regain health.
When eating a Ham Steak you gain 2 health back. You may not attack when taking the eat action. You also may not eat if you are already at full health (10). Eating allows you to discard as many cards as you like and then redraw to your hand limit ending your turn. This helps you strategically build your hand, or help you get to your reshuffle faster.
The Health Potion gives you 5 health immediately and does not cost you an action. You may not drink the health potion if you are dead. For example: if an opportunity kills you, you may not save yourself by drinking a health potion. Drinking the Health Potion destroys it and it is trashed (removed from the game). Notice that if the Health Potion is not used, it counts as 6VP during endgame scoring.
Loot are items, food, and treasure that are guarded by monsters throughout the game. There are 6 different types of Loot: Treasure (victory points), Roast Pig (food), Smoke Bomb (explosive), Molotov Cocktail (fire), Crucifix (holy), and Silver Dust (alchemy).
Victory Points are basically money from the bounties you collect. So it goes to reason that Treasure would also count towards your VP. There are 4 different values of treasure in the deck: 2VP, 3VP, 4VP, and 5VP.
Like Ham Steak, Roast Pig allows you to discard any number of cards and draw up to your hand limit. The exception that Pig gives you 3 health instead of 2. Again, you may not eat if you have full health (10).
If you’re looking for some good defense, then cloud your enemies vision with a smoke bomb. A player can gain +2 defense when attacking with a Smoke Bomb, and if combined with an “alchemy” item, the player would gain an additional defense.
Want to burn some bad guys? Molotov is a good way to go. It gives 2 “fire” symbols and when combined with an “explosive” the player gains +1 to attack, defense and health. Health is added only if the player first survives the fight.
Vampires beware, with this Crucifix gain 2 “holy” symbols towards the attack. This is a more versatile item than others. When combined with another “holy”, the player has a choice of +1 defense, +2 attack, or +3 health. If the +3 health is chosen, the player must first survive the fight.
Have a Werewolf problem, this is the fix for it. With Silver Dust gain 2 “alchemy” symbols. When combined with “holy” a player receives +2 attack and +3 health. The player will only receive the +3 health if they first survive the fight.
